Understanding Auki Labs' Legal Structure and Its Role in Building The Posemesh

Auki Labs is spearheading the development of the posemesh, a decentralized machine perception network, with the goal of creating an open-source infrastructure. This project is supported by two key legal entities: Auki Labs Ltd and Auki Matterless Ltd, which have distinct yet interconnected roles.

Auki Labs: The Protocol Builder

Auki Labs Ltd is responsible for the posemesh protocol. Its primary focus is on developing the network, rather than generating profit. The value created by Auki Labs is meant to accrue through the growth and utility of the posemesh itself, and as such, Auki Labs does not engage in fiat business activities.

By committing to building the posemesh as an open-source project, Auki Labs ensures that the protocol remains accessible and sustainable, even beyond its own lifespan. The long-term goal is for the posemesh to be maintained by a broader community, enabling continued development without reliance on Auki Labs' financial resources.

Auki Matterless: The Application Builder

Auki Labs holds a majority stake in Auki Matterless Ltd, which develops applications that run on top of the posemesh. This subsidiary focuses on creating for-profit applications that drive demand for the posemesh network. For example, Matterless works on applications like Cactus, which rely entirely on the posemesh for functionality.

While Matterless has raised some funding independently, Auki Labs has also subsidized development, as the success of the posemesh protocol requires a strong demand side. It is through Matterless' applications that the utility of the posemesh is realized in the market.

The Symbiotic Relationship

The close relationship between Auki Labs and Auki Matterless is essential. While Auki Labs builds the foundational infrastructure, Auki Matterless creates the commercial applications that generate demand, benefiting the entire ecosystem. Although there is no legal obligation for Matterless to build on the posemesh, it is a strategic and necessary choice due to the intertwined nature of the two entities.

In the unlikely event that Auki Labs ceases to operate, the open-source nature of the posemesh would allow Matterless and others to continue development. Additionally, Matterless could legally switch to an alternative protocol if a better one were created; though, this would not align with the financial interests of Auki Labs, which benefits from the success of the posemesh token.

Radical Transparency and Building in Public

Auki Labs' CEO, Nils Pihl, emphasizes the company's commitment to transparency and building in public. As the posemesh is open-sourced and developed with community input, Auki Labs aims to keep the process visible and accountable to all stakeholders. This transparency is key to building trust and ensuring the long-term viability of both the posemesh and the applications built on it.

About Auki Labs

Auki is building the posemesh, a decentralized machine perception network for the next 100 billion people, devices and AI on Earth and beyond. The posemesh is an external and collaborative sense of space that machines and AI can use to understand the physical world.

Our mission is to improve civilization’s intercognitive capacity; our ability to think, experience and solve problems together with each other and AI. The greatest way to extend human reach is to collaborate with others. We are building consciousness-expanding technology to reduce the friction of communication and bridge minds.

About The Posemesh

The posemesh is an open-source protocol that powers a decentralized, blockchain-based spatial computing network.

The posemesh is designed for a future where spatial computing is both collaborative and privacy-preserving. It limits any organization's surveillance capabilities and encourages sovereign ownership of private maps of personal and public spaces.

The decentralization also offers a competitive advantage, especially in shared spatial computing sessions, AR for example, where low latency is crucial. The posemesh is the next step in the decentralization movement, responding as an antidote to the growing power of big tech.

The posemesh has tasked Auki Labs with developing the software infrastructure of the posemesh.
